USCIS AAO Chief Passed Away

I learned that Mr. Robert P. (Bob) Wiemann, Chief of the Administrative Appeals Office at USCIS, has died recently.   Mr. Wiemann served under the former USINS and the current USCIS for more than two decades.  He had been an adjudications officer and trial attorney with the INS in the Miami District Office of INS before he became the Chief of the AAO.  As a former INS trial attorney, I am proud of his achievements.  There are always opportunities to be successful if one tries hard.  Perphaps I am most impressed with the decisions that were issued by the AAO under his leadership.  I may not agree with their decisions all the time but having somebody with a strong immigration legal background to draft/review AAO decisions definitely made a noticeable difference in terms of their quality and legal sufficiency.  His death is a loss to both the USCIS and to the immigrant community.
