Record Number of Student Visa Issued by the U.S.

On November 16, 2007, the Department of State  of the U.S. announced that it has issued a record number of visas to students to study in the United States, exceeding pre-9/11 levels. During Fiscal Year 2007, a total of more than 651,000 student (F) and exchange visitor (J) visas have been issued.  This is about 10 percent more than Fiscal Year 2006 and 90,000 more than were issued in Fiscal Year 2001. International students continue to choose the U.S. as the destination for higher education because of the excellent reputation of the U.S. colleges and universities.
